A client sends you a screenshot of ChatGPT recommending their direct competitor for a high-intent query. Then come the four words every account manager dreads: “Why aren’t we here?” **A chart can show the gap. It cannot close it.**

Agencies now face pressure to sell Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) as a distinct service, with client-facing reporting across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude. Software vendors have noticed. They offer citation dashboards, branded reports, prompt alerts, and, in some cases, tools that help with the work behind those reports.

Two problems show up quickly when you compare them. **Engine parity is often a pricing question, not a homepage feature:** a plan may cover ChatGPT and Perplexity while charging extra for Gemini or Google AI Mode. And “white-label dashboard” may mean a Looker Studio template your team has to configure and maintain. The deeper problem comes after delivery. Show a client they are missing from most relevant AI answers, and you have created an expectation that your agency will do something about it.

If you are buying AEO software, compare it on three things: what it measures, what the client actually receives, and who does the work when the report finds a problem.

#### First, check what the citation tracker measures

Sending a static prompt through a model API is not the same as seeing what a buyer sees. For a vendor recommendation, an AI engine may use live retrieval, break the request into related searches, inspect sources, and assemble an answer with citations. That process is often called *query fan-out*. **Without live retrieval, a tracker may be measuring model memory rather than current search visibility.**

![Diagram of an AI engine checking several web sources before assembling a cited answer.](https://cdn.prod.website-files.com/6823bbd57170ea42b357cf81/6ab40c61193b4c7c526b6cfb_8c2b62ea-49b3-45e7-941d-62eb90b7ddec.png)

That distinction matters when a client asks why a competitor appeared this week. A static answer cannot tell you whether a current source changed, a useful page became inaccessible, or the engine drew on a different set of references. Before you put a citation chart in front of a client, find out how the tool generates its answers and what evidence you can inspect behind a change.

Then price the coverage you actually need. [Otterly.ai](https://otterly.ai/) lists plans from $29 to $189 per month, with add-on fees for surfaces such as Google AI Mode or Gemini. [LLM Pulse](https://llmpulse.ai/) has a €49-per-month entry tier for 50 weekly prompts across base models, while broader tracking and agency white-label controls sit higher up the pricing ladder. For an agency watching 30 commercial queries across four engines for fifteen clients, the bill can reach $800 to $1,500 a month just to review data weekly. **Price the whole roster, not the starter plan.**

#### A white-label portal can still leave you with the work

Client presentation matters. Nobody wants to explain why a paid service arrives as an unbranded spreadsheet. But white-label delivery tends to hide two different chores.

The first is *connector sprawl*: a vendor gives you a Looker Studio connector or API key, and your agency builds, hosts, and maintains the report. If a token breaks or a field changes, the client still calls you. The second is the polished PDF: a branded attachment with share-of-voice charts, but little room to inspect the prompts, sources, or competitors behind a sudden drop.

Neither format is automatically useless. A team with reporting capacity may be happy to build its own portal, and a concise export may suit a client who only wants a weekly update. The question is what happens when that client replies, “Why did we drop 14% on Thursday?” **A white-label report is delivery only if your team can explain and act on what it shows.** Otherwise, you have put your logo on someone else’s homework assignment.

#### Five agency options, compared by what happens next

These platforms cover different parts of the job. Cairrot, Indaeo, and Otterly.ai focus on finding visibility gaps. Frizerly moves into content publishing. groas is the stronger fit when an agency wants execution alongside reporting rather than another queue of recommendations.

| Platform | Surfaces or coverage described | Client delivery | Published base pricing | Work left to the agency |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| **[Cairrot](https://cairrot.com/)** | ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Copilot | Stakeholder reports and API data feeds | [$39.99 to $99/mo](https://cairrot.com/) | Investigate findings and execute content and technical fixes |
| **[Indaeo](https://indaeo.com/)** | ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude | Multi-client portal and audit exports | Custom agency tiers | Turn diagnostic briefs into completed work |
| **[Otterly.ai](https://otterly.ai/)** | ChatGPT and Perplexity; other surfaces may require add-ons | Monitoring dashboards and scheduled exports | $29 to $189/mo, plus add-ons | Investigate and respond to citation changes |
| **[Frizerly](https://www.frizerly.com/)** | ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude | Branded CMS publishing workflows | [$49/mo monthly or $29/mo annually](https://www.frizerly.com/) | Address gaps that publishing on the client’s site does not resolve |
| **[groas](https://groas.com/for-agencies)** | AI-search visibility, AI Overviews, and Google Ads execution | Branded weekly performance reports and client-facing summaries | Flat monthly fee; $0 onboarding | Set direction and guardrails rather than manage a reporting queue |

The table is a starting point, not a substitute for checking how many prompts, clients, and surfaces your plan includes. More important, **do not confuse the number of engines on a feature list with the amount of client work the tool takes off your desk.**

#### Cairrot and Indaeo: useful answers, manual follow-through

If you already have SEO writers and technical specialists, [Cairrot](https://cairrot.com/) can give them a useful starting point. Its $39.99-per-month entry price and $99-per-month Pro tier make the diagnostic side relatively straightforward to budget. Its tracking, API access, and crawler logging can help your team ask a better question: which prompts mention a competitor instead of your client, and what might be missing from the client’s pages?

That is where the software’s job ends and yours begins. Your team still has to investigate the missing entities, write supporting copy, and configure structured data. For an agency that sells those services and has capacity to deliver them, that division of labor can make sense. **Buy Cairrot when you need better inputs for a team that already does the work.**

[Indaeo](https://indaeo.com/) approaches the problem through a multi-client workflow. It monitors prompts across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity, then produces briefs that can guide the next steps. That helps an account manager turn “we are absent” into a more specific assignment. It does not make the assignment disappear.

Suppose an audit identifies twenty missing category citations across four clients. Someone still has to decide which opportunities matter, prepare material, and manage the outreach. On a $2,500 monthly retainer, those hours deserve a place in the cost calculation before you promise AEO as an easy add-on. **A diagnostic brief is useful; it is not fulfillment.**

#### Otterly.ai: the cost of watching more closely

[Otterly.ai](https://otterly.ai/) offers a clean monitoring interface for following brand visibility across AI answers. That is valuable when an agency needs a consistent view of whether its client appears in target recommendation sets. The problem is not that the chart is hard to read. It is what the chart obliges you to do next.

Add paid engine coverage across a dozen accounts, and the software bill grows before your team makes an optimization. Then an alert tells you a competitor won the citation for “best enterprise inventory software.” The client does not care how neatly the alert was formatted. They want to know why it happened and what you will change.

I think of this as the *observation economy*: paying more to notice more problems, without buying more capacity to solve them. **Otterly.ai is a monitoring purchase, not an execution hire.** Budget for both if you plan to put its findings in front of clients.

#### Frizerly: publishing is not the same as earning a citation

[Frizerly](https://www.frizerly.com/) tries to close the gap between observing a problem and producing something in response. At $49 per month, or $29 per month on an annual plan, it can monitor prompts and publish AI-written blog posts to client sites. If the missing piece is site content, that is more tangible than another chart.

But I would be careful about making self-published articles the whole AEO plan. A business does not become a widely cited recommendation simply by posting twenty articles about itself. AI answers also draw on outside sources, including reviews, directories, and third-party coverage. More pages on the client’s CMS do not, by themselves, create that external support. They can create more material for your team to review and maintain.

![Linocut illustration of a mechanic taking notes beside a smoking engine instead of repairing it.](https://cdn.prod.website-files.com/6823bbd57170ea42b357cf81/6ab40c61193b4c7c526b6cfe_1ae40763-59a0-441e-a960-8e2630359d99.png)

**Use automated publishing for a defined content gap, not as a stand-in for the rest of the citation work.** A faster way to produce pages is helpful only when those pages address the reason the client was missing.

#### The retainer math behind a “simple” dashboard upsell

Here is where the distinction between monitoring and delivery gets expensive. Say a client pays a $2,500 monthly retainer. You give them a white-label dashboard that shows citation drops across four engines. Naturally, they expect you to investigate and reverse those drops.

In one month, the new work could look like this:

1. Three hours reviewing prompt changes across the engines.
2. Two hours coordinating technical schema fixes.
3. Four hours managing writers on supporting content.

That is nine hours. At a loaded labor cost of $95 an hour, **the dashboard has created $855 in additional monthly delivery cost** for that client. If the retainer previously ran at a 65% gross margin, that extra work brings it below 31%. You bought a tool to support an upsell and quietly built an unbilled fulfillment queue instead.

Your hours may be different. The point of the example is not that every client consumes nine hours; it is that every alert has a potential owner. Before you sell the portal, decide who investigates a change, who makes the fix, and whether the retainer pays for that work. If the answer is “the account manager will figure it out,” the margin calculation has already started.

#### groas: execution instead of another recommendation queue

When I managed accounts manually, the worst software purchases were the ones that added tasks to my morning without giving me the hands to do them. Dashboard-first AEO has the same failure mode. It treats citation tracking as an analytics exercise, then leaves the operational problem with the agency.

[groas for agencies](https://groas.com/for-agencies) takes the alternative approach. Its specialized models audit search visibility, identify site and content gaps, and carry out optimization work rather than stopping at an alert. A named human strategist sets direction and guardrails. The work and its results feed into branded weekly performance reports, so the agency can discuss what changed rather than simply forward a chart showing what went wrong.

The commercial distinction matters too. groas uses a flat monthly fee with $0 onboarding fees, instead of asking the agency to assemble a reporting stack and absorb a separate stream of manual fixes. **The aim is to keep your team responsible for strategy and the client relationship, not for clearing every task a dashboard generates.** That is a better fit for a performance agency than buying a monitoring tool and hoping unused staff capacity appears.

The paid-search connection is also worth keeping in view. A client’s search demand does not arrive in tidy AEO and Google Ads folders. By combining [groas Earned Search](https://groas.com/earned-search) with autonomous Google Ads management, an agency can manage organic visibility and paid search under one operating model, with attention on attributable pipeline rather than a collection of impressive-looking visibility charts. That does not mean every missing organic citation can be bought back with an ad. It means the agency can work on both parts of search without treating each new surface as a separate manual reporting project.

#### Choose the tool your delivery model can support

If your agency is a digital PR consultancy with outreach specialists already securing third-party coverage, a diagnostic tracker such as [Cairrot](https://cairrot.com/) or [Indaeo](https://indaeo.com/) may be enough. Give that team prompt-level findings, let them assess the sources, and budget for the work they already know how to deliver.

If your performance agency needs to protect margin across twenty or fifty retained accounts, be more skeptical of a dashboard-led upsell. A tool that says a client’s citation rate fell by 22% has not solved the client’s problem. It has assigned one. When the client asks why ChatGPT skipped their brand, they are not paying for a fresher chart next Monday.

**Pick the system that matches who will do the work after the alert.** If you have the people and the retainer to investigate every gap, buy the clearest diagnostic tool. If you need the work to move without adding another fulfillment queue, [groas for agencies](https://groas.com/for-agencies) is the stronger agency choice. The screenshot that started the conversation deserves an answer. More importantly, it deserves action.
