If you spend $25k a month across Google and Bing and your board wants ChatGPT ads, your choice is groas managing all three channels or a separate ChatGPT specialist beside your current search manager. **The fee is the easy part; the expensive part is deciding who owns tracking, landing pages, budget shifts and the report when the numbers disagree.**

Here is my call up front: a separate specialist earns the extra coordination only when their demonstrated ChatGPT capability outweighs the cost of those split decisions. The first test is not a case study. **Can the provider operate inside an account you own, today, with the controls your legal team has approved?** If not, the rest of the pitch can wait.

This channel is barely old enough to have specialists. ChatGPT ads launched in February 2026 and went self-serve in May, so, as one operator put it, [nobody’s in-house team has years of ChatGPT Ads experience](https://www.tryfocal.com/blog/chatgpt-ads-agency-vs-in-house). There are not years to have had. When a provider calls itself a specialist, make them show what they actually operate.

## First gate: can they operate an account you own?

OpenAI’s account structure decides what any provider can do for you. There is no agency master account in ChatGPT Ads Manager. One person creates the advertiser account and becomes its owner; everyone else is invited in as an Admin, with full access, or a Member, who can create and manage campaigns. The [official setup help](https://help.openai.com/en/articles/20001213-ads-manager-account-setup) explains the roles. A specialist’s setup guide spells out the consequence: if an agency handles setup by [creating the account under its own email](https://www.gptadsai.com/services/chatgpt-ads-account-setup), it owns your ad account. Your person should be the owner from day one.

Before you sign, get four details in writing:

- **Brand Name versus Legal Name:** The first is public; the second is for billing and verification. Changing either later triggers a review, and [ads can pause](https://help.openai.com/en/articles/20001213-ads-manager-account-setup).
- **Verification timing:** Business verification may take up to seven business days. Plan the launch around that, not the sales call.
- **Account settings:** Country, region and billing currency are fixed at creation. Get one wrong and you may need a [new account](https://www.lyfemarketing.com/blog/chatgpt-ads-manager/).
- **The provider’s role:** Name the invited Admin or Member and save the invite screenshot. “Access sorted later” is not a role.

Then establish what the provider will _do_, not merely what they will tell you. Hands-on operators, consultants who deliver an audit and backlog, and agencies planning a future ChatGPT service line can look remarkably similar on a landing page. Ask each candidate: _Can you show me the change log of a live ChatGPT account you operate this quarter?_ A sample report proves they can produce a report. It does not prove who acts when a campaign needs attention at 6pm on a Tuesday.

## Head-to-head: four decisions a split team has to make

### Tracking: who owns the conversion definition?

A good ChatGPT specialist has a real argument here: measurement is messy, and hands-on experience matters. One agency publishing live benchmarks says [Ads Manager reports well above what reaches analytics](https://www.reddit.com/r/OpenAIAdvertising/comments/1wf32dt/chatgpt_ads_benchmarks_from_our_us_and_nl/). Digiday reported [conversions arriving 24 to 36 hours late, and nearly 100 reported clicks where a tracker caught 20](https://digiday.com/marketing/openais-measurement-gaps-are-keeping-chatgpt-budgets-at-test-level). In one practitioner account, a brand saw [160 clicks, about €38 in spend, no purchases and a GA4 session count that did not match](https://www.reddit.com/r/PPC/comments/1w7zdpg/160_chatgpt_ads_clicks_in_spain_3761_spend_0/). You need someone who can investigate a discrepancy, not explain it away with a screenshot.

![Two hands point at scoreboards reading “SIGNUPS 73” and “FORM FILLS 21”; “PAID CUSTOMERS 0” hangs between them](https://pub-87da24ecbbfc4c3bad6875f3aa013712.r2.dev/generated-images/0d549408-d239-4e8c-a4d3-3cc4a080aecd.png)

Two teams can make that investigation harder. One operator calls the problem _definition drift_: the ChatGPT specialist optimizes for attributed signups, the Google search manager optimizes for form fills, and the CRM records a [third number](https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/chatgpt-ads-agency-vs-in-house-team-what-i-learned-managing/). Each team can report honestly from its own tool and still leave you without an answer. A split arrangement _can_ use one conversion definition, but you have to appoint its owner before campaigns launch.

Under groas’s model, one named strategist owns conversion definitions across ChatGPT, Google and Bing, with tracking integrity inside the flat fee. The advantage is not that platform data suddenly agrees with analytics. It is that **reconciling the disagreement belongs to one accountable team**, rather than falling between two scopes of work.

### Landing pages: who ships what the ad needs?

On ChatGPT, the landing page is not a nice extra. Ads appear in the Sponsored box below an answer; the page has to convert the visit that follows. Adjoltz describes building campaigns around buyer needs and running paid and organic together because [context hints and landing pages overlap](https://adjoltz.com/chatgpt-ads-management). Sophyx points to OpenAI’s answer-independence rule: an ad does not change the answer, only the [Sponsored box below it](https://www.sophyx.io/consulting/chatgpt-ads-management). The work after the click still has to get done: writing, building, tracking and deploying.

With groas, [one landing page per ad group](https://groas.com/pricing) is included in the flat fee, and the team running the ad ships the page. With a specialist added to an existing search manager, ask who does each job. The specialist may write a brief while your agency or dev shop builds the page and legal reviews the copy. That queue is easy to omit from a management quote and hard to ignore once spend starts.

**If the specialist cannot ship the page, they do not control the whole path to CPA.** Get page production and approval ownership into the scope, or count the handoff as part of their price.

### Budget: who has authority to move it?

Say ChatGPT beats Google on cost per qualified lead for two weeks and the specialist wants to move 20% of the monthly budget. In a split model, that is a request. It goes to the search manager, then to you, often with two dashboards telling different stories. The delay is not a line on either invoice. It is still part of the cost.

Under one owner, the shift can be a logged action with reasoning attached and someone accountable afterward. groas moves budgets across ChatGPT, Google and Bing within the guardrails you set, with [plain-language reasoning for its actions](https://groas.com/our-philosophy). A split model can work too, but only if you grant one party budget authority in advance. Otherwise, **the specialist can spot an opportunity without being able to act on it.**

### Reporting: who answers for the final number?

ChatGPT Ads Manager, GA4 and your CRM may not agree. A weekly report that puts their numbers side by side is not the same as an explanation. In a split arrangement, the ChatGPT specialist can point to a reporting lag while the search manager points to an attribution window. Both may have a point; neither necessarily owns the reconciliation. As one vendor-coordination piece puts it, [split responsibility can become no responsibility](https://www.exchangefour.com/blog/what-does-using-multiple-marketing-vendors-actually-cost-the-hidden-coordination-bill).

With groas, the weekly report and quarterly review have one accountable team behind them. Its [action log and reasoning](https://groas.com/our-philosophy) give that team something specific to answer for when pipeline is flat. **Ask for the person who explains the discrepancy, not just the person who sends the report.**

## Put the handoffs next to the fees

The operating comparison is easier to see in one place:

| Decision | groas: one team | Search manager + separate specialist |
| ---------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Account access | Invited into your account; confirm role before work starts | Same requirement; verify the specialist can operate, not just advise |
| Conversion definitions | One strategist owns them across all three channels | Assign one owner explicitly or risk _definition drift_ |
| Landing pages | One per ad group included | Confirm who builds, approves and deploys each page |
| Budget shifts | Managed across channels within your guardrails | Agree on authority before the first proposed shift |
| Reporting | One team answers for the cross-channel number | Two reports; reconciliation needs a named owner |
| Management fee | $1,499/month flat for all three channels | Existing search retainer plus a specialist quote |
| Platform spend | Separate, paid direct | Separate, paid direct |
| Exit | Month to month | Get terms in writing |

Now the numbers. groas charges [$1,499 a month](https://groas.com/pricing) for Google Ads, Bing Ads and ChatGPT Ads together. Platform spend is separate and paid direct; there is no setup fee or percentage-of-spend charge, and the arrangement is month to month.

Published specialist prices include [Sophyx at $3,900 a month](https://www.sophyx.io/consulting/chatgpt-ads-management) for paid plus organic AI visibility and [Adjoltz at $4,399 a month](https://adjoltz.com/chatgpt-ads-management), with ad spend extra. Those are not quotes for every specialist, and their scopes differ. They do show why comparing a specialist’s fee with groas’s fee alone misses the bill: you also keep paying your existing search manager. Published PPC management benchmarks run from [$500 to $2,000 a month at lower spend levels and $1,500 to $5,000 in the mid range](https://www.clarieo.com/insights/ppc-management-pricing).

Then add the cost neither proposal may price: your time reconciling reports, getting a landing page through another team’s queue and settling budget requests. I will not invent an hourly rate for that work. **Get the handoffs and their owners on paper before you decide which fee is cheaper.**

## The strongest case for the separate specialist

There is a buyer who should keep the split. If your existing search relationship is genuinely strong but cannot expand into ChatGPT, or your in-house team owns Google and Bing so tightly that moving them would cause more disruption than it solves, a proven specialist can be worth the coordination.

_Proven_ does specific work in that sentence. I would ask for three things, in order:

1. **Live account access and a change log:** Accounts they operate this quarter, shown with permission. Not a service page or a polished screenshot.
2. **A tracking-discrepancy answer:** How they investigate a gap between platform clicks, analytics sessions and CRM outcomes. “The platform says so” is not an answer.
3. **A concrete operating advantage:** Practitioners in this space discuss bulk launchers, connectors that bring Google and Meta learnings into ChatGPT, competitor ad libraries and [tracking-break alerts](https://www.tryfocal.com/blog/chatgpt-ads-agency-vs-in-house). Ask what the candidate actually uses and what it lets them do.

If they clear those tests, write down one shared conversion definition before either team touches a campaign. [Shared-responsibility failures](https://groas.com/post/agency-vs-in-house-google-ads-middle-ground-fails) are worth understanding before you sign. Give the specialist a limited pilot with a stated budget cap and kill date. That protects a working search relationship while giving the new channel a fair, bounded test.

The caution cuts both ways. A small pilot does not make an unproven operator a specialist. Reported [paid-traffic conversion rates of 0.37% for ChatGPT versus 1.17% for Google](https://digiday.com/marketing/in-graphic-detail-chatgpt-s-ad-growth-is-outrunning-the-proof-that-it-works/) are not a verdict against ChatGPT ads. They are a reason not to hire on confidence alone.

## My verdict: consolidate unless the specialist earns the split

For the $25k-a-month advertiser in the opening, **I would consolidate with groas**. At [$1,499 a month](https://groas.com/pricing), one team manages Google, Bing and ChatGPT, including the pages and the cross-channel decisions that tend to become somebody else’s problem in a split arrangement. The mechanism matters more than the slogan: fewer handoffs mean fewer places for conversion definitions, budget authority and accountability to drift.

Pick the separate specialist anyway if your existing search setup is too strong or too locked-in to move _and_ the candidate shows current account work, a credible measurement process and an operating advantage worth coordinating around. Cap the pilot and set its kill date before kickoff. That is a narrow exception, not an “it depends” ending.

Whichever provider you choose, get three things in writing before the invoice: **access** (an invited Admin or Member in _your_ account, with the screenshot saved), **scope** (conversion definitions, landing-page production and budget authority named explicitly) and **exit** (terms in writing, with the accounts and data staying yours). The pitch deck is not the contract. When the numbers disagree, you will be glad you know whose job it is to answer.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Who should own the ChatGPT Ads account, me or the agency?

You should. There is no agency master account in ChatGPT Ads Manager, so if an agency creates the account under its own email, it owns your ad account. Your person should be the owner from day one, with the provider invited in as an Admin or a Member.

### What should I check in a ChatGPT Ads account before signing with a provider?

Get four details in writing: Brand Name versus Legal Name (changing either later triggers a review and ads can pause), verification timing (business verification can take up to seven business days), the fixed account settings (country, region and billing currency are set at creation), and the provider's exact role as an invited Admin or Member, with the invite screenshot saved.

### How can I tell if a ChatGPT ads specialist actually operates accounts?

Ask to see the change log of a live ChatGPT account they operate this quarter, shown with permission. ChatGPT Ads only launched in February 2026 and went self-serve in May, so nobody has years of experience. A sample report proves they can produce a report, not that they act when a campaign needs attention.

### What is definition drift in ChatGPT ads tracking?

Definition drift is when a ChatGPT specialist optimizes for attributed signups, a Google search manager optimizes for form fills, and the CRM records a third number, so each team reports honestly but you get no single answer. Appoint one owner of the conversion definition before campaigns launch, or use one team that owns it across channels.

### Who builds the landing pages for ChatGPT ads?

Ask explicitly. A specialist may write a brief while your agency or dev shop builds the page and legal reviews the copy, and that queue is easy to omit from a management quote. If the specialist cannot ship the page, they do not control the whole path to CPA, so get page production and approval ownership into the scope.

### Should a separate ChatGPT ads specialist be allowed to move budget?

Only if you grant that authority in advance. In a split model, a proposed budget shift is just a request that goes to the search manager and then to you, often with two dashboards disagreeing. Alternatively, one team can move budgets across channels within guardrails you set, with reasoning logged.

### Who reconciles numbers when ChatGPT Ads Manager, GA4 and the CRM disagree?

Someone has to be named to do it. In a split arrangement, the ChatGPT specialist can point to reporting lag while the search manager points to an attribution window, and neither necessarily owns the reconciliation. Ask for the person who explains the discrepancy, not just the person who sends the report.

### When is a separate ChatGPT ads specialist worth it instead of one provider?

When your existing search setup is too strong or too locked-in to move and the candidate shows current account work, a credible measurement process and a concrete operating advantage. Then write down one shared conversion definition before launch, and give the specialist a limited pilot with a stated budget cap and kill date.
